Kitchen Renovation Part 3: The Reveal!

There are so many things I can say about our kitchen….where to start? It was a long 4 month process from start to finish. Water damage, uneven floors, a grout color mishap; this renovation had it all, and I’m so happy to see my vision come to life. To be honest, it’s not even technically complete yet - there are a few minor fixes and touch-ups we need to do.

However, I’m calling it basically complete and finally worthy of sharing.

Just a little reminder of the before…..

And now (FINALLY) the reveal!

The beautiful, colorful, French-inspired kitchen of my dreams. I love it so much and am so proud of Will and myself for making this dream kitchen a reality. We’ve been planning on and dreaming of a kitchen renovation since we moved into our home in 2019. To see this beautiful kitchen stills feels surreal.

Breaking it down a little, here are the major things we changed/ wanted about the function of our kitchen in order to make it work better for us while still looking beautiful:

  1. More Counter Space - Our original kitchen had SO LITTLE COUNTER SPACE. We had almost an entirely blank wall devoid of cabinets. It was infuriating. With this design, I added in a small peninsula and extended a wall full of cabinets (plus a pantry). This gave us another ~10 square feet of counter. It’s amazing. The peninsula has really changed our lives for the better; we have a place to set groceries down or just hang out while one of us is cooking.

  2. Appliance Garage - Since our original kitchen had an empty wall, we were stuck putting our larger counter top appliances in a closet by our stair case - not in the kitchen. Adding more lower cabinets gave us an ‘appliance garage’ - a place for all our bigger appliances that we don’t want to keep out all of the time. It also freed up space in the other closet. Win win!

  3. Open Shelving - I know some people are very against open shelving in the kitchen. It’s a lot to keep clean, I get it. However, I knew that we would still need some storage near the oven, but I did not want to darken the space again with surrounding upper cabinets. The bistro shelving adds storage for my Anthropologie dish collection, which frees up space elsewhere. The glass shelves, along with the lighter backsplash, keeps the area feeling light and not crowded.

  4. Old Meets New Design - My personal style is a mix of old and new. I love a classic look, but I want to fill it with color. I knew our kitchen could handle a darker cabinet due to the amount of natural light it receives. Starting with a classic black and white kitchen, we added in color with this amazing Schumacher wallpaper - a historic print that fits perfectly with the age and style of our home.

I plan posting a detailed design post with links and a cost/ renovation breakdown. I was just too impatient to share these beautiful photos by my friend Kia & Co. Photography. Thank you for following along!
